Chicory is a JVM-native WebAssembly runtime written purely in Java. It runs WebAssembly programs wherever the JVM runs, without native dependencies, JNI, or a separate native runtime, allowing Java applications to keep their JVM memory, security, and observability guarantees.
It includes a WebAssembly binary parser and bytecode interpreter, with planned compiler and AOT engines, validation, WASI support, SIMD, tail calls, exception handling, threads, garbage collection, and multi-memory support. The project prioritizes safety, simplicity, and use in restrictive JVM environments over being a standalone or fastest runtime.
