CockroachDB

CockroachDB is a distributed SQL database developed by Cockroach Labs. It is compatible with the PostgreSQL wire protocol and supports most PostgreSQL syntax, data types, drivers, and ORMs. CockroachDB scales horizontally: every node can accept reads and writes, while data automatically rebalances across nodes and hotspot detection adjusts distribution as load changes.

Overview

It can be fully managed on AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, operated in a customer's cloud account, or self-hosted on Kubernetes, on-premises, or in hybrid environments. In the video's Form3 case, CockroachDB served as the single data store across all three cloud providers for a multi-cloud payments platform.
