ftop is a lightweight, open-source system monitor for Apple Silicon Macs, developed as a native macOS app in Swift. It displays current CPU usage and per-core frequency, memory and pressure, network throughput, GPU usage and frequency, power draw, temperature, and the busiest applications in a resizable floating glass panel. Process rows fold helper processes into their parent app, and selecting a process shows its CPU, memory, and helper-process details.
The panel adapts its layout to its size, uses animated readings and a stable process ranking, and stops most monitoring when hidden or fully covered. It provides menu-bar controls, a JSON5 configuration file, command-line commands, optional access to system processes through a privileged helper, and automatic release updates. It requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 15 or later, is distributed outside the Mac App Store because it uses private macOS interfaces for some readings, and is licensed under the MIT license.
