Overview

The application reads the computer's hardware and estimates which models fit before download, selecting full, partial, or CPU offload and supporting model sources and runtimes such as llama.cpp, MLX, Ollama, LM Studio, and Hugging Face caches. Its agents can browse in separate tabs, read pages, use files and images, run document retrieval, and connect to external MCP servers. Claude Code, Codex, Cline, OpenCode, Selenium, Puppeteer, and Playwright can control it through MCP, WebDriver, or CDP, while a CLI and IDE plugins provide coding-agent access.

It runs on Windows, Linux, and Apple Silicon macOS, with a Docker mode for headless server use. The software is licensed under AGPL-3.0-or-later; official unmodified builds can be used without a commercial license, while private modifications, proprietary combinations, or private extensions require licensing from Lumabyte, LLC.

What LumaBrowser is used for

1 use taken from transcripts — each links to the moment in the video.

  • Combines a browser, local models, and media generation in one desktop app so you don't have to wire up a separate server and chat interface; it scans your hardware before downloads, can reuse models you already have in Ollama or LM Studio, and lets coding agents connect over MCP to browse in their own tabs while local chats stay on your device.
