Mac Duo

Mac Duo is a free macOS menu-bar app that recreates the iPhone Duo visual effect on compatible MacBooks. As the lid closes, it uses the built-in lid-angle sensor and ScreenCaptureKit to capture and render the live screen, while Metal applies perspective, blur, and dimming. The perspective is adjustable, and the app supports English and Simplified Chinese. It requires macOS 14 or later, a compatible built-in lid-angle sensor, and Screen Recording permission. Prebuilt downloads are provided for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs; the project can also be built with Xcode using Swift 6.0 or later. The effect applies only to the built-in display, stops when macOS sleeps, and passes clicks through to the applications underneath. The code is licensed under Apache License 2.0.

Lid Plane is a macOS menu bar app that creates a MacBook lid-folding illusion using the laptop's hinge-angle sensor. It captures the built-in display with ScreenCaptureKit, reshapes the captured image with a Metal shader as the lid moves, and blends increasingly blurred copies using Metal Performance Shaders; the blur increases with lid movement and is stronger near the top of the display. The app can use a selected activation angle or a movement-based mode that anchors the effect after motion stops, while the underlying applications remain clickable and retain keyboard focus. It requires macOS 13 or newer, an Apple silicon MacBook, a supported lid-angle sensor, and Screen Recording permission. The effect applies only to the built-in display, pauses during closed-lid or unsupported-display states, and keeps captured frames in memory without saving or transmitting them. It is built with Swift, ScreenCaptureKit, IOKit, and Metal, and is distributed as a downloadable app for Apple silicon. The repository is licensed under GPLv3-or-later from version 0.3.2 onward; version 0.3.1 and earlier remain MIT-licensed.

A browser-based Three.js study of foldable-screen transitions that recreates an iPhone Duo fold animation with projected screen UI, progressive blur, and custom image uploads. Only the cover half rotates while the rear-camera half remains fixed; screen content uses a front-view projection, and blur and darkening follow image coordinates during the fold. It provides Wallpaper, Launcher, and Custom modes, with orbit controls, zooming, a fold slider, and a play button. The application is static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with Three.js bundled locally, and can be deployed to Vercel or another static host after preparing the Apple reference assets. The original application code is MIT-licensed; Apple models and imagery are excluded from that license and remain subject to Apple's terms.

Palmier Pro is a Swift-native macOS video editor built for AI, with generative video and image models integrated into the timeline. It can expose a local MCP server at http://127.0.0.1:19789/mcp for connections from Claude, Codex, and Cursor, and includes an in-app agent that can create and edit within the same project. It requires macOS 26 (Tahoe) or later on Apple Silicon. Releases through v0.7.6 and the corresponding published source are available under GPLv3; later binary releases are proprietary.

DesktopFly is a macOS desktop companion that places a procedural 3D fruit fly on a transparent, click-through overlay. The fly walks across window edges, grooms, sleeps, flies, and responds to cursor movement, clicks, window changes, keyboard activity, time of day, and thermal state without requiring permissions or entitlements. A separate interactive brain window displays 23,210 FlyWire neuron soma positions and live spikes. Its behavior is driven by a 1 kHz leaky-integrate-and-fire simulation of a 668-neuron circuit containing approximately 19,000 real synaptic connections. Cursor approach is converted into looming input for LC4 and LPLC2 visual neurons; escape is produced only when activity reaches the DNp01/Giant Fiber escape command neuron through the modeled synapses. Other circuit outputs drive walking speed, steering, grooming, backward movement, wing effort, escape maneuvers, arousal, and spontaneous takeoff. The loop also feeds gait rhythm to ascending proprioceptive neurons and fast cursor motion to sensory wind partners. The body geometry and sensory transduction are procedural or modeled, while the downstream connectivity and synaptic strengths come from FlyWire data. The project targets macOS 13 or later and requires the Xcode Command Line Tools. Menu-bar controls provide pausing, brain-window visibility, escape testing, movement between displays, adding or removing flies, and starting a collective startle response; the brain window can stimulate nearby circuit neurons for 400 ms. The code is MIT-licensed, while derived FlyWire data files are CC BY-NC 4.0.
