Confetti is a local Visual Studio Code extension for detecting, highlighting, and formatting more than 16 configuration-file types, including Nginx, SSH, dotenv, INI, Java Properties, TOML, YAML, Git Config, npm Config, ignore files, Hosts, fstab, and crontab. It examines file paths and content to select a language mode, and leaves ambiguous files unchanged when detection does not reach its safety threshold.
Its TextMate grammars provide theme-compatible syntax highlighting. Format-specific, tokenizer-backed formatters are available for supported formats such as Nginx, SSH, dotenv, INI, TOML, Git Config, npm Config, and Hosts; formatting preserves comments, quoted content, escaped spaces, and continuation lines and is designed to be idempotent. YAML, ignore files, and tool-version files are intentionally not formatted.
Confetti runs locally without an account, AI service, cloud service, network connection, or telemetry. Detection occurs when a file is opened, activated, saved, or explicitly detected rather than on every edit, and formatting runs only when requested. It requires VS Code 1.90 or later and is distributed under the MIT license.
