Octane is an open-source JavaScript UI framework and successor to Inferno, developed by Dominic Gannaway. It uses a compiler to turn React-style components into direct DOM code before they ship, removing the virtual DOM and manually maintained dependency arrays while retaining familiar APIs such as useState, useEffect, memo, context, portals, Suspense, and transitions.
Components can use standard JSX or Octane's .tsrx syntax, which adds template directives such as @if, @for, @switch, and @try. The compiler derives hook dependencies from captured values, tracks hooks by call site rather than call order, and rejects hooks in plain JavaScript loops; keyed @for is provided for per-item hook state. The runtime uses delegated native DOM events, plain ref props, compiled render paths, and an LIS-based keyed reconciler. The native renderer does not include class components, Server Components, or a synthetic event system.
