open-appleremote

open-appleremote is a Python tool for using first-generation Apple Siri Remotes (A1513/A1962) on Linux. It unlocks the Bluetooth HID device, decodes its touch surface, buttons, gestures, and tilt reports, and emits JSON events or Linux key presses; an optional virtual keyboard can control applications such as Kodi, browsers, and emulators. It also provides a local web lab, capture replay, and an experimental voice path that reconstructs Opus audio from Bluetooth HCI-monitor traffic and writes Siri presses as WAV files.

Overview

The package uses Python 3.8 or newer with no dependencies for its main functions, and requires Linux with BlueZ, hidraw, and appropriate udev permissions for live use. Voice decoding additionally requires libopus and CAP_NET_RAW or its supplied system-service setup. The project is an early release, tested on an A1962 remote; second- and third-generation Siri Remotes are not supported, and the virtual keyboard and live voice path are identified as not fully hardware-tested. It is distributed under the MIT license.
