The OpenAI Python SDK is OpenAI's official Python library for calling the OpenAI REST API from Python 3.10 and later. It provides synchronous and asynchronous clients, typed request parameters, Pydantic response models, configurable base URLs, retries and timeouts, streaming over Server-Sent Events, file uploads, pagination, webhook verification, vision inputs, and Realtime API connections. The primary interface is the Responses API, with continued support for Chat Completions; the video also uses the SDK to connect to a Microsoft Foundry URL and send prompt and response API calls. It is installable from PyPI with `pip install openai` and is generated from OpenAI's OpenAPI specification.
