AI product Open source
rec is a local inference engine developed by Recursive for running its Flint language models on Apple Silicon Macs. It starts a local model server and provides OpenAI- and Anthropic-compatible chat-completion APIs, allowing clients to connect through localhost; the default model is flint. It includes launch and execution commands for the pi and OpenCode harnesses, as well as commands for serving, downloading, updating, diagnosing, authenticating, and stopping the model server. The project is optimized for single-session usage and requires an Apple Silicon Mac with an M4 Pro, M5 Pro, or M5 Max, at least 48 GB of unified memory, approximately 30 GB of free disk space, and Node.js 22 with npm when using pi. It is distributed under the Apache 2.0 license.
