V8 is an open-source JavaScript and WebAssembly engine developed by the V8 team at Google and distributed with the Chromium project. It executes ECMAScript by compiling to native machine code using a multi-tier architecture (Ignition interpreter and TurboFan optimizing compiler), provides garbage collection, snapshotting, a C++ embedding API, and is used in Chrome, Node.js, Deno and other C++ hosts. The project is released under a BSD-style license and its official documentation is published at v8.dev.
