The Wayback Machine is a web-archiving service operated by the Internet Archive, a U.S.-based nonprofit. It captures and preserves web pages through site crawls and user-submitted “Save Page Now” URLs, storing archived content as WARC/HTTP captures with derived renders. Its indexed archive, which dates back to the mid-1990s, provides playback of historical page states and access to archived websites and other digital content.
The service includes CDX indexing, a query/API for retrieving URLs by date, support for the Memento protocol, and bulk access through archive.org.
