x402

x402 is an open standard and protocol for internet-native payments over HTTP. It lets resource servers declare payment requirements for endpoints through middleware, while clients and payment facilitators handle payment schemes without requiring the server to manage details such as gas or RPC access. The protocol is designed to support multiple networks, tokens, currencies, signing standards, and payment schemes, including crypto and potentially fiat-based systems.

Overview

Reference SDKs and integrations are available for TypeScript, Python, and Go, with adapters for frameworks and clients including Express, Fastify, Fetch, Hono, Next.js, and Axios. The project is intended to be openly accessible, backward-compatible where possible, and trust-minimizing: facilitators and resource servers should not move funds beyond the client's stated intentions.
