00:00 Einstein's theory of gravity is the most beautiful product of a single mind that we've ever created. It's one of the two great theories of 20th century physics. Unlike quantum mechanics, it was basically Einstein. He had a little help, but basically one person doggedly pursuing this idea for 10 years and then wrote down this theory that ends up describing the motion of planets in the solar system and also the origin and fate of the universe.
00:20 And it's pretty pretty extraordinary. It's crazy the number of orders of magnitude that it covers. You know, you first start thinking about it by doing thought experiments to do with jumping up and down in elevators. Then it reaches out to describe the orbit of Mercury and detectable perturbations of orbital dynamics within the solar system and then the bending of light.
00:37 And then it describes the rotation of the entire galaxy. And then it describes the expansion [music] and potential fate of the entire universe. That's many orders of magnitude indeed and [music] pretty impressive that it was the work of almost a single mind. And frankly, our universe should be honored to be described by such a beautiful theory.
