Tool Open source
AARE is an open-source Android application that reimplements the phone side of Android Auto without Google Play Services. It communicates with a car head unit using Android Auto's projection protocol, renders the car interface on the phone, and hosts AndroidX Car App Library navigation apps, media services, messaging notifications, voice assistants, phone-screen mirroring, sensors, audio, and instrument-cluster output. It supports USB and wireless connections, includes a desktop head unit for testing, and can use screen capture, Shizuku, or a privileged installation for phone audio routing. The project is early software with limited real-car testing and certificate-compatibility constraints; it is distributed as an APK and desktop head unit under the GPL-3.0-or-later license.
