Armada is a gaming-focused Linux distribution for supported ARM64 gaming handhelds. Built on Fedora bootc with device support derived from ROCKNIX, it combines a console-first Steam experience with a KDE Plasma desktop in an image-based operating system. It provides ARM64 Steam with FEX translation and Proton compatibility, gaming and desktop modes, over-the-air updates, SD-card boot with optional internal-storage installation, and handheld-focused power, fan, controller, calibration, and per-game compatibility controls.
The project assembles bootc images and flashable disk images with upstream-derived packages. Development uses Just and Podman, and Armada's own code is licensed under GPL-2.0-or-later while bundled components retain their upstream licenses. The project describes Armada as prototype software under active development; installation can require bootloader changes that may brick a device, corrupt partitions, or cause data loss.
