GeoLens

GeoLens is a self-hosted geospatial data catalog for collecting, indexing, previewing, and sharing GIS datasets on infrastructure controlled by one organization. It ingests uploaded and created datasets, database tables, service snapshots, and remote STAC assets, including Shapefile, GeoPackage, GeoJSON, GeoParquet, FlatGeobuf, KML/KMZ, CSV, XLSX, GeoTIFF, Cloud-Optimized GeoTIFF, and VRT raster mosaics. The catalog records dataset provenance and source state, supports pg_trgm fuzzy search and optional pgvector semantic ranking, and provides spatial analysis operations such as buffer, centroid, clip, dissolve, spatial join, and intersection.

Overview

Its browser-based map builder composes and styles multi-layer maps and publishes them through links or embeddable iframes. GeoLens exposes OGC API Features and Records, STAC API 1.0, JSON-LD catalog formats, direct tile URLs, and vector tiles for use with QGIS, ArcGIS, MapLibre, and other OGC clients. The stack uses a React and MapLibre frontend, a FastAPI API, a GDAL/ogr2ogr ingestion worker, Titiler for raster tiles, PostgreSQL with PostGIS, pgvector, and pg_trgm, plus object storage and Valkey caching.

The project is deployed with Docker Compose or prebuilt container images and also publishes Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, CLI, and read-only MCP packages. Optional AI features use an OpenAI-compatible endpoint or Anthropic key for natural-language dataset and map interactions. GeoLens is licensed under Apache License 2.0; its own REST API may change between minor releases, while its OGC and STAC standards surfaces are intended for client integration.
