Ondine is an open-source Rust compiler for Mermaid diagrams that compiles diagram source into SVG ahead of time, so pages can ship rendered images instead of a browser-side renderer. It provides a Vite plugin for compiling `.mmd` imports, a CLI that accepts files or standard input, a Node compiler for scripts and servers, and a Markdown/MDX remark plugin that replaces Mermaid code fences with compiled SVG. Optional WebAssembly modules support in-browser compilation, while an image Worker renders URL-encoded diagrams for GitHub READMEs. Ondine also supports CSS-variable theming and a small runtime for mounting precompiled SVG. It is distributed under the MIT license.
