PGSimCity is an independent, non-commercial educational visualization of PostgreSQL internals: an explorable 3D city that represents a PostgreSQL cluster and lets users inspect, walk through, and disrupt simulated database scenarios. It illustrates effects such as checkpoint-related latency spikes, long-running transactions that keep tables bloated, and the cost of synchronous_commit.
The city is a scaled model rather than a PostgreSQL emulator; PostgreSQL source code does not run in the 3D scene, and its quantities are adjusted for visualization. Its optional Query flow and Machine can run PGlite, an in-memory PostgreSQL compiled to WebAssembly. The project targets PostgreSQL 18 and provides keyboard- and text-first routes for its lessons, while noting that the first-person 3D scene has no complete nonvisual equivalent.
