Plex is a media server and streaming platform developed by Plex, Inc. Its Plex Media Server indexes and serves users' personal media (video, audio, photos) to native client apps and the web, and Plex also provides an ad-supported on-demand catalog plus live TV and DVR features. The server is distributed for Windows, macOS, Linux, many NAS devices and Docker, client apps run on web, iOS, Android, smart TVs, streaming boxes and consoles, and the service is offered freemium with an optional Plex Pass subscription for features such as mobile sync, hardware-accelerated transcoding, and premium music features.

DVinyl is a self-hostable collection-management platform for cataloging and organizing physical media and collectibles. Its plugin-based design supports music formats such as vinyl, CDs, and cassettes; books; movies; video games; LEGO sets; and custom collection types. Built-in plugins retrieve metadata and cover art from Discogs, Hardcover, TMDB, IGDB, and Rebrickable, while items can be added by identifier or barcode, or imported in bulk from sources such as a Discogs library. It supports multiple collections, wishlists, music market-value estimates, configurable dashboards, themes, mobile-responsive views, multilingual use, user roles, OIDC single sign-on, and read-only public collection links or QR codes. Custom types can be created through a no-code plugin editor or added as code plugins through the API.

Jellyfin is a free software media system for managing and streaming a user's own media from a dedicated, self-hosted server to end-user devices through multiple apps. It is an alternative to proprietary media servers such as Emby and Plex. This repository contains Jellyfin's backend server and API; the server hosts the web client, uses FFmpeg for media processing, and is built on the .NET platform for cross-platform support. Jellyfin is distributed without premium licenses or features.

Halcyon Video is a self-hosted 3D media-library interface that connects to Jellyfin or Plex and procedurally presents a collection as a walkable video-rental store. Built with Vite, TypeScript, and three.js, with an optional Tauri wrapper, it turns libraries into aisles, genres into signposted sections, duplicate quality versions into stacks behind a face copy, and low-rated titles into a Bargain Bin. Users can browse shelves, inspect front and back cover artwork, take cases to a checkout counter, and play titles through its player or MPV in a simulated living room and VCR; WebXR walk mode and a CSS-based 2.5D mode are also available. Era, lighting, floor plan, and VHS-or-DVD presentation are independent settings. Branding can change the store name, colors, emblem, typeface, signs, cases, endcaps, aisle markers, shelving, checkout area, and clerk uniform; a logo.svg or transparent PNG in the user-assets folder can provide the emblem and derive house colors. The project supports Docker, browser use, dedicated-HTPC operation, remote browser playback with a TURN relay, and RomM game libraries. Its browser demo includes a synthetic catalog of roughly 2,000 titles and can use several gigabytes of memory and substantial GPU resources, while shelving personal files requires Jellyfin or Plex rather than a built-in folder scanner.

Plezy is an open-source cross-platform client for Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby, built with Flutter for desktop, mobile, and TV. It provides library, collection, playlist, watchlist, recommendation, and cross-server search views, along with media playback supporting direct play or transcoding, HDR and Dolby Vision, multiple codecs, customizable subtitles, playback progress synchronization, and external players. The client also supports music playback, offline downloads, live TV and DVR, synchronized watching, and integrations with services including Trakt, MyAnimeList, AniList, Simkl, and Seerr.
