WebGPU

BG0 is an open-source background-removal tool that runs locally in the browser and produces transparent PNGs without uploading source images. It uses WebGPU when available and falls back to WebAssembly, downloading and locally caching a pinned BiRefNet ONNX model selected for the available hardware. The project includes the BG0 web application and the @bg0/browser library, which handles capability detection, model loading and caching, preprocessing, ONNX inference, mask postprocessing, alpha compositing, progress reporting, cancellation, and errors. It requires no account, API key, backend, server inference, billing, usage limit, or analytics transmission of image contents or metadata. The source is licensed under Apache License 2.0; model weights retain the licenses listed in the repository's third-party notices.

vgpu is an open-source TypeScript library for WebGPU, developed by Vercel Labs, covering typed shaders, 3D scenes, GPU tensors, neural networks, and mathematical visualization. WGSL files can import and export declarations like TypeScript modules; reflection tracks binding names, types, and layouts so shader bindings do not require handwritten declarations. Its tiny GPU-first API uses a single context returned by init(), which is passed explicitly to rendering entry points. The same API runs in browsers, headless Node through a Dawn-backed device, and a deterministic software mock for tests and continuous integration. Explicit frame passes handle targets, effects, clears, and draws without hidden scene-graph state. The package includes a CLI for documentation, examples, and shader validation, and the video describes an MCP endpoint for agent access.

WebGL 2.0 is a web graphics API standardized by the Khronos Group that provides GPU-accelerated 2D and 3D rendering inside web browsers. It is based on OpenGL ES 3.0 and exposes features including GLSL ES 3.00 shaders, vertex array objects, uniform buffer objects, transform feedback, multiple render targets, 3D textures and floating‑point texture formats; it renders to HTMLCanvasElement framebuffers via a WebGL2RenderingContext. WebGL 2.0 is implemented in modern browsers and is used from JavaScript and WebAssembly for in‑browser rendering and graphics applications.

Snowflow is a real-time procedural snow-rendering demonstration built with WebGPU, Babylon.js, and hand-written WGSL. It generates terrain, snow deformation, procedural characters, inverse-kinematics foot placement, cloth, surf wakes, water spells, atmosphere, and post-processing at load time without textures, meshes, HDRIs, or animation assets. Its terrain uses a nested-ring geometry clipmap whose vertex shader performs world placement, level-of-detail morphing, and displacement. Layered gradient noise produces the underlying heightfield, while a persistent GPU terrain-state buffer handles additive deformation through scrolling, relaxation, and splatting in a ping-ponged full-screen pass. The demo also provides GPU snow shading, cascaded PCSS shadows, procedural character and cloth systems, and in-browser settings, performance, and debug views. It requires a WebGPU-capable desktop browser and a discrete or recent integrated GPU; it intentionally has no WebGL fallback.

gpuix-svelte is an experimental Svelte custom renderer for GPUI, Zed's GPU-accelerated UI framework, distributed through @gpuix/native. It renders ordinary Svelte components into native desktop windows without a web view, while retaining Svelte component syntax, reactive state, scoped styles, and hot reload. The project includes demos for a counter, tic-tac-toe, Hacker News, and a liquid-glass control center, plus a browser target that renders the same components into a WebGPU canvas through GPUI's WebAssembly build. Its styling layer parses supported inline styles and class rules into GPUI's layout and paint properties rather than using a browser CSS engine. Supported behavior includes flex and grid layout, logical-pixel sizing, colors, typography, scrolling, hover and active states, CSS variables, portals, anchored overlays, keyboard and focus helpers, and custom components such as Scroller. The package also provides headless testing utilities that exercise GPUI's rendering, hit testing, input, and event pipeline. The repository is work in progress and requires an unreleased Svelte custom-renderer build bundled with the package. It supports Node.js and Bun, includes prebuilt native binaries, can compile examples into standalone executables for macOS, Linux, and Windows, and is licensed under MIT.
