Zerobyte is a self-hosted backup automation tool for managing encrypted backups of local and remote storage. Built on Restic, it provides a web interface for scheduling, monitoring, retaining, browsing, and restoring backup snapshots across local directories and NFS, SMB, WebDAV, and SFTP sources, with storage backends such as local and cloud destinations through Rclone. It supports compression, end-to-end encryption, and fine-grained retention policies.
Zerobyte is distributed as a Docker container and requires Docker and Docker Compose. Its documentation warns that the 0.x series is subject to major changes and recommends protecting internet-accessible deployments with a secure tunnel and authentication.
