Tool Open source
MariaDB Server is an open-source relational database developed by a global community with the MariaDB Foundation and MariaDB plc. It began as a fork of MySQL led by members of the original MySQL team and maintains substantial MySQL wire-protocol and syntax compatibility, making it a database backend for applications such as the Magic application builder.
The server supports pluggable storage engines including InnoDB, Aria, MyRocks, ColumnStore, Spider, and S3; asynchronous, semi-synchronous, and parallel replication; and Galera synchronous multi-primary clustering. Its SQL features include vector search with a built-in VECTOR type and HNSW indexing, common table expressions, window functions, temporal tables, sequences, JSON functions, GIS, full-text search, role-based access control, pluggable authentication, encryption at rest, and TLS connections. It is licensed under version 2 of the GNU General Public License.
