Starboard is a macOS terminal that permanently docks beside the system Dock rather than appearing as a hotkey-triggered overlay. It tracks the Dock's position and height, remains visible across Spaces and full-screen apps without taking focus, and runs a persistent login shell using zsh -l so the working directory, history, and shell state carry between commands.
The terminal provides a dark nautical ANSI palette plus 20 built-in themes, Cmd+E to expand or restore its height, and Cmd+T to open a keyboard-controlled theme picker. The project is implemented in under 700 lines across four Swift files with no dependencies, according to the video description.
It can be installed through the project's Homebrew tap or from a release archive, and it can be built with Swift. Release builds are ad-hoc signed and not notarized, so the first launch requires Gatekeeper approval and Accessibility permission for Dock tracking; login startup can be configured through macOS Login Items or the provided installation script.
