upm

upm is a small npm-registry package manager written in TypeScript for Node.js. Its command-line operations are also importable JavaScript functions, allowing it to be embedded in other tools. It reads existing .npmrc configuration and supports package-lock.json, pnpm-lock.yaml, bun.lock, and its own upm.lock format.

Overview

upm resolves and installs dependencies, manages workspaces, runs package scripts and executables, supports registry and tarball dependencies, and shares content-addressed files between projects through a store. It uses hardlinks when available, skips dependency lifecycle scripts by design, supports frozen, offline, production, verification, deduplication, fetching, and pruning modes, and provides an experimental resolver API that can run in a browser without Node.js. The repository describes it as prerelease software with current limitations including no Git or local-directory dependencies and limited peer-dependency handling. It is distributed under the MIT license and is developed in the unjs organization.
